Egress Windows
What are egress windows? Egress windows provide an emergency escape in the event of fires, floods, and other disasters. They offer a safe exit from a burning building, preserve your belongings, and prevent smoke damage by allowing fumes to pour into the outside instead of “bottling up” inside your house.
Given the nature of their safety aspect, an egress window has to be done correctly, and up to code for the state that the residence is in. New York State, for example, requires egress windows to have a minimum opening area of 5.7 square feet, a minimum opening height of 24 inches, and a minimum opening width of 20 inches. We must also ensure the window's bottom sill is no more than 44 inches from the floor to comply with safety regulations. Safety regulations would vary somewhat in other states, but Jim Ryder Construction is well versed in all matters of compliance, codes, and all applicable laws in the Syracuse area when it comes to egress windows.
